Certification Overview
Phlebotomy is the practice of drawing blood from a patient using a needle, typically from a vein in the arm. This procedure, also known as a blood draw or venipuncture, is essential for medical diagnosis, laboratory testing, and certain therapeutic treatments. In some cases, blood is withdrawn as part of a treatment process called therapeutic phlebotomy, which helps manage conditions such as excess iron levels or abnormal red blood cell counts.
The Phlebotomy Micro-Credential Course at Futures Canadian College provides students with a comprehensive understanding of phlebotomy techniques and procedures as they relate to patient care. This short, specialized training program is designed to equip students with practical skills and theoretical knowledge required for entry-level positions in healthcare.
Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
✔ Explain the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system.
