    Program Overview

    The Appliance and Service Technician Certification Program is a comprehensive, modular training course aligned with Red Seal trade standards, designed to prepare students for a skilled career in residential and commercial appliance repair. With the increasing complexity of appliances and the rise of smart home systems, certified appliance technicians are more essential than ever for ensuring safe, efficient, and timely repair

    This program introduces students to a full range of topics, including electrical systems, gas appliances, refrigeration, HVAC components, and smart appliance integration. From foundational knowledge to advanced diagnostics and regulatory compliance, learners gain practical, hands-on experience using industry tools, interpreting wiring diagrams, and applying safe work practices in real-world scenarios.

    Graduates will be ready to pursue Red Seal Certification in the Appliance Service Technician trade, giving them a professional edge, broader job mobility across provinces, and the ability to run or support a successful repair business in a growing service industry.

    Admission Requirements

    • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent
    • Minimum age: 18 years
    • Language proficiency (CLB Level 6 or IELTS 5.5 overall or equivalent)
    • Strong interest in electronics, mechanical systems, or troubleshooting
    • Previous experience in appliance repair or electrical work is an asset

    Program Modules

    • Module 1: Fundamentals of Appliance Repair and Safety (39.5 hours)

      · Introduction to household appliances and common tools

      · PPE and workplace safety standards

      · Electrical theory, wiring diagrams, and troubleshooting basics

      · Customer communication and service call handling

      Module 2: Mechanical Systems, Gas & Refrigeration (39.5 hours)

      · Advanced electrical and mechanical diagnostics

      · HVAC and refrigeration basics, maintenance, and troubleshooting

      · Gas appliance operation and safety protocols

      · Installation and compliance with building codes

      Module 3: Advanced Repairs and Smart Technologies (39.5 hours)

      · Using diagnostic tools and software

      · Repairing smart appliances and IoT systems

      · Specialized appliance repair (high-end and commercial models)

      · Environmental and regulatory standards in service work

      Module 4: Professional Growth and Business Practices (39.5 hours)

      · Sustainable appliance repair and eco-friendly practices
