    Program Overview

    Automotive Service Technicians (ASTs) play a vital role in Canada’s transportation and logistics sectors by ensuring vehicles are safe, efficient, and road-ready. With the continued growth of automotive technology and the increasing complexity of modern vehicles, skilled ASTs are in high demand across dealerships, repair shops, fleet maintenance providers, and specialized diagnostic centers.

    This four-level modular program is designed to prepare students for Red Seal certification. Through a combination of theory and practical in-class training, learners will gain expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles of all types, from passenger cars to light trucks. Whether you’re starting your journey in the trade or upgrading your qualifications, this program supports your path to becoming a licensed Red Seal Automotive Service Technician.

    Level 1: Introduction to Automotive Service

    Total Hours: 39.5

    1. Occupational Skills & Safety
    2. Vehicle Systems Overview (Electrical, Mechanical, Hydraulic)
    3. Basic Engine Principles
    4. Tires, Wheels, and Hub Servicing
    5. Preventative Maintenance Procedures
    6. Fasteners, Bearings, and Seals

    Level 2: Chassis and Drivetrain Systems

    1. Suspension and Steering Diagnosis

    3. Manual Transmission and Drivetrain Systems
    4. Wheel Alignment Basics
    5. Cooling and Lubrication Systems
    6. Exhaust and Fuel Systems

    Level 3: Engine and Electrical Diagnostics

    1. Advanced Engine Performance Diagnostics

    4. Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC)
    5. Scan Tools and Diagnostic Software

    Level 4: Advanced Diagnostics and Shop Practice

    Admission Requirements

    • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent;
      or mature student status (18+ years and successfully pass a Wonderlic test)
    • Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in the automotive field
    • International applicants may need to demonstrate language proficiency (IELTS/TOEFL)
